Demand Estimation Using Managerial Responses to Automated Price Recommendations

چکیده
We provide a new framework to identify demand elasticities in markets where managers rely on algorithmic recommendations for price setting and apply it data set containing bookings sample of midsized hotels Europe. Using nonbinding observed delay adjustments by decision makers, we demonstrate that control-function approach, combined with state-of-the-art model-selection techniques, can be used isolate exogenous variation across hotel room types over time. confirm these elasticity estimates difference-in-differences approach leverages the same delays makers. However, are more noisy only yield consistent if pooled hotels. then our two classic questions dynamic pricing literature: evolution effects transitory change future due presence strategic buyers. Finally, discuss how empirical applied directly other decision-making situations which recommendation systems used. This paper was accepted Omar Besbes, revenue management market analytics. Heterogeneous Demand Responses to Discrete Price Changes
Abstract. This paper discusses the possibility of exploiting price variations that may occur during the survey period of any household expenditure survey in order to identify heterogeneous demand responses to discrete price changes. This is feasible since expenditure surveys usually contain a large number of observations. The principal difficulty for estimation arises from the observation windo...

The demand for gasoline follows a seasonal cycle in Sweden. The paper investigates the response in prices and profits over the cycle. In contrast to what has been found for the gasoline market in the United States I find no support for seasonal price changes compatible with the recently developed theories for cyclical variations of intensity of competition. Some possible explanations for this d...

Existing research links CEO personality traits to a number of corporate decisions including overinvestment, external acquisitions, and earnings management. These findings raise the question of whether counterparties distinguish between differences in individual CEO behavior, and how they respond to it. We focus on two key counterparties – auditors and credit rating agencies – and examine whethe...

Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), an XML-based information exchange model, is used to facilitate continuous price-responsive operation and demand response participation for large commercial buildings in New York who are subject to the default day-ahead hourly pricing. We summarize the existing demand response programs in New York and discuss OpenADR communication, prioritization of dema...
متن کاملVisualizable and explicable recommendations obtained from price estimation functions
Collaborative filtering is one of the most common approaches in many current recommender systems. However, historical data and customer profiles, necessary for this approach, are not always available. Similarly, new products are constantly launched to the market lacking historical information. We propose a new method to deal with these “cold start” scenarios, designing price-estimation function...
